Establishing the Chef Shane Memorial Scholarship
August 1, 2018 – CHARLESTON, SC – Together with Trident Technical College, we (Virginia’s on King) are pleased to announce the establishment of the Chef Shane Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship is in memory of Shane Whiddon who was the executive chef at Virginia’s on King. Shane was shot and killed during lunch service by a disgruntled employee on August 24, 2017. Chef Shane made a lasting impact on many people’s lives, especially in the culinary world. We hope this scholarship will keep Shane’s passion for cooking alive while supporting aspiring culinary students at the Culinary Institute of Charleston at Trident Technical College. The Chef Shane Memorial Scholarship will be awarded annually to a student pursuing culinary studies at Trident. The scholarship recipient, chosen by the college’s Scholarship Committee, will receive up to $1,000 a semester for up to four semesters.
During the month of August, we invite our Charleston community to dine with us at Virginia’s on King for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and brunch. A portion of the restaurant’s sales from the month of August will be donated to the Chef Shane Memorial Scholarship Fund.
